Observational Encounters

Directly Supervised Student-Client Encounters

Directly supervised student-client encounters consist of faculty members directly observing the client encounter. The student conducts the meeting under the guidance of the mentor. Students directly interact with the client, take client history, conduct assessments, and make recommendations with guidance. Students may also conduct supervised follow-up encounters. Students are responsible to complete paperwork about the encounter. These encounters can take place in a small group setting or one-on-one.

One-on-one encounters consist of student conducting the client encounter under direct or indirect mentor supervision. Students directly interact with the client, take client history, conduct assessments, and make recommendations. Students also conduct follow-up encounters. Students work closely with their mentors to discuss details of the encounters and recommendations. Students are responsible to complete paperwork about the encounter. These encounters are more intimate than observational encounters.
